STAFFORD’S former post office will re-open next week as a new restaurant, bar and nightclub venue following a multi-million pound transformation. T he Post House is set to open its doors on Thursday, December 8, in historic Chetwynd House following months of work.
Business man Dennis Foster, former owner of Fosters Nurseries and Garden Centre, is behind the development.
He took over grade II listed Chetwynd House, as well as the former Jobcentre Plus building next door and an office block at the back, following the closure of the post office in 2007.
Since then he and son Daniel Foster, who is director of the Post House, have been working to create a venue housing two restaurants, a bar and nightclub and a rooftop terrace.
The building spans three floors and features The Pillar Restaurant, which promises an "exceptional dining experience", with executive chef Matt Pickop, a Michelin-standard chef who has worked at Claridge's, creating the dishes.
The downstairs Bistro will include a modern European twist on traditional English food and The Post House also boasts its own bakery, The Patisserie, which will offer home made cakes and pastries and coffee. The general manager will be Simon Harding, who has worked in hotels in the North West of England, while Michael Kettle, who has 15 years of global experience, will be deputy general manager.
Mr Foster said: "We are delighted to support the local economy of Stafford and surrounding areas. "The recruitment process has been a rigorous task, the amount of interest has been overwhelming and over 500 applications have been received. Working in conjunction with South Staffordshire College we have now hired 80 employees, the majority of which are from the local area. "This building has a special place in the hearts of residents, visitors and companies, who live work and do business in and around the area. "It will be a very special multi purpose venue, huge thought and consideration has been given by the team to bring something unique to Stafford and the West Midlands."
