Police forced to use CS gas

A thirty-two year old Staffordshire man has recently been jailed for 21 months. Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court were told how the man in question returned to his mothers house on the 28th August in a drunken state.the defendant became aggressive and angry, prompting his brother to come to the house. He went on to say "The defendant became erratic. He went to the kitchen and picked up a knife with a 12-inch blade. His mum called the police and the defendant said he was going to kill all the people in the house. When the police arrived the defendant had dropped the knife and was in possession of a whisky bottle. Officers were in fear for their personal safety and used CS gas."

When interviewed by police the defendant commented that police "had it in for him" and were mistaken. He did, however, plead guilty to affray in court.
