A number of outdoor events and activities have recently taken place in Tittesworth. These included welly
wanging, health walks and den building and were organised by the Staffordshire Moorlands District Council and partners for a free
Family Fun Day at Tittesworth Reservoir. The event took place on Sunday 21st September and many residents of Leek's Haregate estate took park. The event marks
the launch of a Walk to Water project run by the council with
Staffordshire Moorlands Primary Care Trust, Severn Trent Water and
Natural England to encourage people to get physically active in the
great outdoors. An organised walk from Haregate Community Centre to
Tittesworth set off at 11.30am and continued for an hour and a half, and for those not feeling so energetic a shuttle bus was made available. Councillor Mark Deaville,
portfolio holder for leisure, sport and culture, stated that "taking exercise in the countryside is a cheap and highly
enjoyable way of improving our physical and mental well being." Walk
to Water is one of nine initiatives funded nationally by Natural
England as part of its Green Exercise programme. In turn, Green
Exercise is an element of a three-year programme to promote the health
benefits of the great outdoors to people who do not normally visit the
countryside.
